The DLHE is an annual survey of our recent graduates, aimed at finding out what they have gone on to do approximately six months after graduating. It consists of a series of questions about the employment and/or further study that graduates are engaged in. The survey covers full-time, part-time, UK, EU and international graduates and the same questionnaire is used for everyone.
We conduct the survey at two points in the year, one in April and one the following January. Graduates are contacted by e-mail, by post and by telephone to encourage them to complete the survey, then all data is collated, coded and returned to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) at the end of March.
The information is provided to HESA in a coded format and is used by HESA for statutory functions and publications. HESA also supply the data to third parties such as government bodies, academic researchers and journalists. All data published by HESA and supplied by them to third parties is kept anonymous so that individuals cannot be identified.
The data is also very useful to the University, to advise its teaching, learning and employability strategies, to inform current and prospective students about potential career paths and in carrying out its alumni activities and communications. Personal information processed by the University is done so in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and we ensure that no-one is able to identify respondents from published material except where they have given their permission.
