We take pride in recruiting around 300 casual workers every year to YCL in the following sections: Hospitality and Catering, Nursery, Conferences, York Science Park, Print Shop, Retail, York Sports Centre and Village.
Many of the staff we employ are current University of York students.
YCL are responsible for operating the majority of the catering outlets on campus, and our team of casual workers in our catering outlets carry out a wide range of tasks from serving food to our hundreds of customers every day to clearing tables and spaces in our outlets and preparing our outlets for formal dinners and events.
Cucina is the University of York’s catering provider, catering for events ranging from fine dining and drinks receptions to casual meetings. Our team of casual staff are responsible for delivering great catering and great service at every event on campus.
York Sport run the York Sport Village and York Sport Centre on the University campus. Both venues offer a great range of sports and fitness facilities, including a 120 station fitness suite, studios, a wide range of fitness classes, swimming pools, athletics tracks and more. York Sport have a range of casual roles and shifts on offer throughout the year.
YCL also operate three supermarkets across the University campus, with regular casual shifts on offer for a range of hours.
We also offer casual opportunities in a range of roles in our sections, with a wide range of responsibilities.
Our casual roles offer great flexibility, allowing you to pick how much or how little you want to work! The casual shift system allows you to decide which shifts you want to work, giving you total freedom to fit with your lifestyle.
Uniforms can be supplied where required, with training on the job and the opportunity to work with our great teams across the beautiful University of York campus.
All our outlets are easily accessible with great transport links and on-site parking if required.

The current process for applying for casual roles is simple. You just need to:
Complete an on-line registration process which is self-service. You will need to visit https://york.dashboardtechnology.co.uk/users/sign_in and click register as a worker. Some data is mandatory (eg. Bank details, address) and you need to confirm you accept the terms of condition of engagement. Once you have registered as a worker and completed all the sections you will be required to submit a ‘Right to Work’ check – this means you will need to go to central UOY HR show a manager a valid passport or relevant documents showing you have the right to work in the UK. They will send you and email invite to attend HR or careers to do this.
Some posts may require a DBS check and you will be informed of this at application and the process for undertaking the check which will mean visiting YCL HR to undertake a DBS check.
