The University of York is home to a wide range of internationally recognised academics, with a strong history of research excellence. We received the Times Higher Education Award for University of the Year 2010, and during 2012/13, we were named the number one university in the UK (and seventh in the world) for institutions less than 50 years old.
We also recently won our fifth Queen’s Award for Excellence in Higher Education, were invited to join the prestigious Russell Group of top UK universities and won a host of other national awards and prizes. We continue to make an impact in our immediate environs through a range of partnerships with local businesses and organisations. In the last five years, the University has collaborated with over 700 individual partner universities, research institutions and companies in EU-funded research across 33 European countries.
The Ron Cooke Hub is the University's dedicated business engagement centre on the Heslington East campus expansion. It houses Departments, lecture spaces, meeting spaces, the Creative Technology Centre and hosts a wide range of events, enabling engagement between the business, student, academic and local communities.
York Cares is partnered with over 200 local charities, and offers an engaging and co-ordinated volunteering framework that addresses York's community needs, particularly in areas of disadvantage. Our Careers Service also addresses volunteering need through its Community and Volunteering Unit (CAVU).
With over 200 meeting rooms available to hire, complemented by first-rate catering facilities and en suite accommodation, York Conferences offers a flexible solution to the hosting of any event.
The Graduate Students' Association offers the dedicated Postgraduate Community Fund which is open to staff and students wishing to encourage links between the University and its many communities, utlising postgraduate students.
