Masters of Public Administration

Welcome to the University of York’s MPA programme.

The York MPA has been designed to support the current public service modernising agenda and is the product of partnerships within the Worldwide Universities Network, a consortium of Higher Education institutions which brings together leading academics from around the world. This international perspective, combined with expertise from the Departments of Management, Politics and Social Policy at the University of York, ensures our MPA is intellectually stimulating, reflective of contemporary global issues and relevant to a wide range of public & voluntary organisations.

The MPA programme offers public sector practitioners the chance to undertake an accredited degree directly relevant to both their current role, and future career development. Our study programme provides a framework for participants to reflect on their professional experience whilst developing their capacity to manage strategically within complex and often turbulent public service environments. The combination of rigorous teaching and a truly international ‘learning community,’ (supported by diverse student recruitment), provides a distinctive insight into the global trends that affect public institutions, as well as experience of best practice from around the world.

Whilst the York MPA is academically demanding and intended to challenge, we provide participants with an intensive system of personal support which we know is crucial when combining post-graduate study with a demanding career.

The York MPA is uniquely flexible, allowing participants the opportunity to study wholly online or via campus-based delivery. It is also possible to study the programme on a full, or part-time basis. Further details on the study options available can be found in Online and campus based study.

In addition to our MPA degree, we are also able to provide a range of short courses tailored to clients’ needs.

We are excited by the challenges that lie ahead within the public and voluntary sectors and hope you will join us in tackling them.
