General Information
Directions
The Nursery is situated on Campus South. By car, take the main university entrance from Heslington Lane onto Newton Way (near the Sports Centre). After a short distance take a right turn into the car park marked 'Campus South'. If intending to stay for more than 30 minutes, you should use the pay and display machine to obtain a parking ticket. If your stay is less than 30 minutes, you may be able to park in a short-stay parking space if one is available (these are marked in the car parks). After parking the Nursery is located a short walk from the car park and is immediately behind the University Health Centre. For cyclists, cycle racks are available near the Nursery entrance gate.
Information of interest to parents is distributed by personal letter, via the Nursery Newsletter (approximately twice a term) or on the Nursery noticeboards.
Registration
The Nursery is fully registered with the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted). The Registration Certificate is on display in the Nursery.
All staff are fully CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked and approved to work with children under 8 years of age. All Nursery policies are available on request.
Management Structure
The Nursery was set up in October 1989 and is ultimately responsible to the University Council.
Nursery Management Group
The Nursery Management Group is chaired by the section head (Head of Department) and includes the Nursery Manager, Student Support Services Manager, Treasurer and Nursery Administrator.
Nursery Consultative Group
The Nursery Consultative Group agrees and keeps under review, the general aims and principles of the Nursery and recommends actions arising from these to the Nursery Management Group. Its members will include representatives of the parents/legal guardians of registered children, Nursery staff, Student Services Committee, Staff Committee, Students Union, Graduate Students Association, the Section Head, Nursery Manager and Administrator to the Nursery.
Parental Grievances
If the parent, parents or legal guardian of a child or children registered with the Nursery wishes to make a complaint this shall be addressed to the Nursery Manager.
If for reason of substance, a complaint is not appropriate to be addressed to the Nursery Manager, it shall be open to the parent, parents or legal guardian concerned, to address the complaint in writing to the Head of Department.
