About the Nursery
York Campus Nursery is a multi-cultural setting catering for 9 children aged 3 months to 2 years and 30 children aged 2 years to school age in two seperate units.
The children have access to three enclosed play areas one of which is a forest area (pictured right)
Activities
We offer a wide range of activities to the children in order to promote different kinds of learning through child lead play, investigation and exploration. We aim to develop physical co-ordination and control through the use of apparatus and music and movement games. We try to improve manipulative skills, hand eye co-ordination and concentration through construction, jigsaws and other table toys. The nursery's primary aim is to help children become confident and enquiring learners.
Although we do provide overalls for children to wear, as and when necessary, please remember they may be taking part in "messy" activities and should be dressed accordingly. It is also helpful if removable clothing and footwear are marked with the child's name and children should bring appropriate clothing for outdoor play. Physical movement encourages co-ordination and concentration.
A wide range of art and craft activities are available to stimulate creativity and self expression. The nursery curriculum is developed through the Early Years Foundation Stage as regulated by Ofsted (Office For Standards in Education). All settings that receive government funding are required to plan activities and experiences that help children progress in the various stages of learning and development and are subject to inspection by Ofsted.
The nursery has an organic fruit and vegetable garden planned by the children. The opporunities to plan, grow, cook and sample their own food encourages healthy eating.
