The Islamic Society at York offers Muslims and Non-muslims alike the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of Islam, to gain a wider understanding of its history and sicuss a diverse range of issues that are often misunderstood or misrepresented. We cover matters relevant to present day current affairs and try to tackle issues reaised by people who attend the meetings and the interactive discussions help by guest speakers. Listeners have the opportunity to ask questions about the Muslim way of life and discuss topics of interest. We offer a warm and friendly environment as well as free literature.

York Jewish Society (J-Soc) is a small yet friendly and flourishing society. We run events at least every week which range from cinema trips and pub crawls to our hugely successfully Friday nights and interfaith events building greater understanding with other religious groups on campus.
We have extensive contacts with the Union of Jewish Students where through regional and national events you can meet other Jewish students from around the country.
There is a facility for kosher self-catering at the newly set up Centre for Jewish students. This facility has a study room where you can use our resource materials or just find a quiet space to work amid the hectic life of campus. It is open both to individuals and to the society as a whole and is the venue for many events including a weekly bagel lunch! It does not matter what your level or type of observance is - if any at all! If you are interested in Jewish issues or just want to meet other Jewish students in a social setting, call us.
We have no Jewish chaplain on our campus itself, but you can easily contact Reform Rabbi Fox on (0161) 434 6464 / (0161) 428 7746. Please ask J-Soc for details.
