Other Volunteering Opportunities in York

To complete your 10 week placement is a fantastic achievement but you don’t just have to stop there. If you've enjoyed your experience then why not get involved with another of the many volunteering opportunities that York has to offer?

On completion of your YSIS placement, there's a world of volunteering open to you. You could:

  • Continue with YSIS: We have many student tutors who have enjoyed their placements so much that they come back time after time, sometimes for the duration of their degrees. If you fancy something different you could become a student mentor (see our mentoring programmes). You could also join the Student Management Group (SMG) who help to run YSIS. The SMG give their ideas and time to enable the continued success and development of the scheme (see 'All About YSIS' for more information about the SMG).
  • Student Action: Student Action offers opportunities to volunteer with children in a more informal environment, running drama projects, after-school clubs and the ever-popular Kids' Camp. They also offer chances to volunteer in all areas of the community from coffee clubs for the elderly to dog walking. Student Action is run by York University Students' Union. For more information visit the website.
  • The Community and Volunteering Unit is based in the Careers Service and offers:
    • Termly community start up projects
    • Advice & funding for students setting up new community projects
    • Sign-posting to local volunteering opportunities
  • You could also have any volunteering you do recognised by the national *v* awards.
