The Aim of
Student Support Services is:
- To provide high quality professional support that
enables students to make the best use of the academic and personal
developmental opportunities available to them at the University of York.
The
Objectives of Student Support Services are:
- To provide an agreed set of
central University student support services. These currently comprise
Disability Services (for students and staff), Open Door Team, Student Financial
Support Unit and Student Support Office, which includes the student welfare
advice, international student support, immigration advice service and
undergraduate special cases administration.
- To ensure that these
services are of high quality, address the needs of students and meet relevant
statutory compliance requirements, proposing changes to provision where
necessary.
- To deal with those
individual cases where students are experiencing academic or pastoral
difficulties, making best use of the resources available.
- To service the Special
Cases Committee and the Student Services Committee.
- To support the development
of University policies and procedures and to provide support at the interface
between academic and welfare issues.
- To ensure effective
communication with each other and with colleagues from across the University,
including those in academics departments, Colleges, student
organisations
, chaplaincy, Health Centre
and appropriate external agencies, to provide the most effective levels of
service possible within the resources available.
- To inform students, staff
and other agencies of the welfare and support services available to students.
- To review and evaluate these
services through various measures, including user feedback.
- To administer
the disbursement of University and other funds available as scholarships,
bursaries and hardship funds in a timely and fair way and in accordance with
relevant policy and guidance.
- To advise the University on
matters relating to student support and to inform the University of relevant
legal and professional developments.
- To provide information,
advice and guidance to prospective students about disability support, financial
support and other practical matters relating to student life.
