The University's commitment to maintaining and enhancing the quality of its programmes and the experience it provides is outlined in the Policy Statement on the Management of Quality and Standards (PDF

Annual Programme Review (APR)
The annual programme review assures UTC that departments are monitoring and reviewing their programmes and responding to student feedback.
Periodic review
All departments are subject to a periodic review every five/six years.
Surveys (NSS, PTES, PRES)
Student surveys provide a valuable tool for monitoring and evaluating departmental provision and university support and resources.
External audits and accreditation reviews (QAA, PSRB)
Within the regulatory framework the University of York are subject to audit, the last audit took place in 2007.
Three year review visits
Programmes that are deemed to be ‘higher risk’ are subject to three year review visits. The visit focuses on the student experience, quality assurance and teaching and learning issues.

Departmental visits
Departmental visits supplement quality assurance processes in that they take place on an ad hoc basis when a need is identified. A departmental visit may be initiated by a department or by University Teaching Committee.
Student representation
Departments should involve student representatives in all review processes, as well as some monitoring activities.
