If you or colleagues have observed signs of significant deterioration in the physical or mental health of a student, or any other significant welfare issue it is important this is addressed.
If you have serious concerns about a student you should discuss this with one of the staff within Student Support Services. it may also be helpful to discuss the concerns with a member of their College welfare team. The purpose of these discussions will be to decide what action, if any needs to be taken and by whom.
It is particularly important to take early action where the situation is affecting academic work and in respect of any student still under 18 years of age.
For advice on mental health, see Helping Students With Mental Health Difficulties (PDF

More general information regarding emotional and psychological concerns is also available.
Staff in central student support services deal with a wide range of student issues and problems.
Supervisors may find it helpful to draw upon their experience if in any doubt about the appropriate action to take in any particular case.
