Supporting students with disabilities
The following guidelines are designed to provide information about disabilities and teaching strategies based on best practice.
1st August 2010 There are changes to the payment for Dyslexia Assessments.
General overview
Revised 2010 The Higher Education Academy provides practical guidance for academic staff on disability legislation.
Making your teaching inclusive from the Open University provides an extremely comprehensive guide to best practice.
Advice on specific impairments
We also provide teaching strategies and information on facilities and support for specific impairments:
- Dyslexia
- Irlen syndrome
- Deafness and hearing impairment
- Blindness and visual impairment
- Mobility impairment
- Asperger's syndrome
- Other medical conditions (including Crohn's disease, ME and diabetes)
Of course, disabilities can affect people in different ways so any support offered by Disability Services will be flexible and tailored to each individual.
