Supporting students with accommodation issues

Students should be advised to consult either the Accommodation Office or a Student Welfare Adviser.

University accommodation

The Accommodation Office allocates University accommodation to students. They do so against agreed criteria, with certain categories of students receiving priority due to identified additional needs.

Students are required to apply by deadlines which are set out in the information they provide to students and on their website.

Do not suggest that University accommodation will be available to students without having confirming this with the Accommodation Office.

Please email accommodation@york.ac.uk if you have further questions regarding any aspect of University accommodation.

Private sector accommodation

Students should firstly read the information available on finding somewhere to live and getting help with accommodation to see if their concerns are addressed there.

If further support is required, students should contact a Student Welfare Adviser (welfareinfo@york.ac.uk) on 01904 434140. We are happy to help students check contracts for private housing before they are signed and to assist in dealing with disputes with private sector landlords.

Please contact welfareinfo@york.ac.uk if you require further advice on helping students with private sector accommodation.
