Lisa O'Malley decided on a change of career

I came to York as a mature student in 1994, after working as a Management Accountant in both the private and voluntary sectors. My interest in Social Policy and Sociology was first sparked through distance learning with the Open University and after two years trying to juggle full time work with studying I decided to leave my job and enter higher education.

I have never regretted that decision – despite some financial hardship along the way. Studying and then working at York has really made a positive difference in my life – I would recommend it to anyone!
