Undergraduate entry requirements

We welcome students from a diverse range of educational, vocational and experiential backgrounds. Please contact us if you are unsure whether you meet entry requirements or to discuss alternative entry requirements.

Typical offer

  • A levels: BBB. All A level subjects are accepted (including General Studies).
  • International Baccalaureate: Score of 31 points
  • European Baccalaureate: 75%
  • Scottish Advanced Highers + Highers: BB + BBBBB
  • Scottish Highers (without AH): AABBB
  • Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher): BBBBBB
  • BTEC National Diploma: DDM  
  • Mature students are welcomed and considered individually. Other vocational awards are accepted (e.g. NVQ, CACHE and BTEC awards, etc). Access Course Certificates are accepted.

Alternative offer for Social Policy or Applied Social Science

If you do not have A levels (or equivalent vocational qualifications) to meet the typical offer, you can apply to a four year open access route: Extended Degree in Social Policy and Applied Social Science. The first ‘introductory’ year is delivered by York College.

Note for Social Work

BA (Hons) Social Work: A levels minimum requirement is BBB. Also accepted is the Access to HE Diploma with 30 credits achieved from units awarded Merit.

In addition, GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (or equivalent) is required. See BA Social Work for further requirements.
