Shadowing social workers
For new students coming to study social work at York, we strongly recommend completing a Shadowing Day before you arrive. Students from other universities may also find this information useful.
Practice teaching
First-hand experience is an essential part of social work students' degree programmes. The Department works in collaboration with a number of social work service providers to offer this experience to students.
If you interested in becoming a practice teacher, or are returning to practice teaching and would like a refresher to develop your role as a practice teacher, you will be interested in our workshops on Enabling and Assessing Practice Competence in Social Work and Social Care.
For current practice teachers we provide a variety of resources such as handbooks, report templates and tools for practice teaching.
Service users and carers participation group (SUPAGroup)
Service Users and Carers are involved in all aspects of social work student’s education from admissions, through teaching to assessment. Members of SUPAGroup bring a wide variety of valuable experience and knowledge to the education of social work students at University of York.
