Living on the ‘virtual’ edge: Young LGBT people, deliberate self-harm and online forums

This British Academy funded study is aiming to investigate why young LGBT people are more likely to engage in deliberate self-harm (DSH), and suicide attempting, than their heterosexual peers. It is examining online forums to investigate the virtual environments in which young people talk about their sexuality and gender identity to build understanding of why some young LGBT people harm their bodies.
