Research Undertaken for the Audit Commission
Conducted by: Bob Coles, Christine Godfrey, Antonia Keung, Steven Parrott and Jonathan Bradshaw. Department of Social Policy and Social Work, and Department of Health Sciences
Some of the case studies reveal remarkable savings which can be made to public finances by modest public investment in childhood or adolescence. The indications are that cuts in such youth support programmes could result in very significant rises in public expenditure.
Enquiries about this research should be sent in the first instances to Bob Coles (bob.coles@york.ac.uk / 01904 32 1241).
'Re-engaging young people in education, employment or training'
This research feeds into the wider Audit Commission project 'Against the odds', looking at the financial, personal and social cost of teenagers who are so-called NEET - not in education, employment or training.
