Making Research Count

Making Research Count (MRC) is a national collaborative research dissemination initiative, currently run by the Universities of Bedfordshire, Brighton, Central Lancashire, East Anglia, Keele, The Open University, King’s College (London), Northumbria (with Teesside), Salford, the West of England (Bristol), and York.

Making Research Count works in partnership with local authorities and other relevant bodies in regional sites to contribute to the development of research-informed, evidence-based practice which brings together the best of practitioner knowledge and expertise, knowledge from research and information and expertise from service users:

improving the dissemination and implementation of research findings
enabling participants from the participating agencies to make sense of research
helping agencies develop their skills in evaluating their existing practices and policies
ensuring that practitioners, managers and service users are involved in setting the agenda for research
enabling practitioners, managers and service users to benefit from the outcomes.

Making Research Count (University of York) (MRC(Y)) is currently working with eight local authorities’ Children’s and Adults’ Departments to implement an agency funded regional programme of events across all life stages. They are East Riding, Hull, Leeds, North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, Wakefield, and York The events include research briefings, larger workshops and conferences. In addition we facilitate a regional Research Governance Framework in Social Care group. Places at our events are also available on a fee paying basis.

Research Governance

Making Research Count (York) also hosts a regional group of staff with responsibility for research governance and ethics, in both Adult Social Care and Children and Families services. We meet three times a year, and the meetings offer the opportunity to share experiences, good practice and challenges of the role as well as being a forum for networking and sharing knowledge about national research governance activity and to discuss ethical issues with academics. Anyone interested in joining the group is very welcome.
