Steps to get started
What are the v awards and how do I get one?
The national v awards are designed to give you recognition for your volunteering achievements. v is the youth volunteering charity, whose mission is to inspire a new generation of volunteers aged 16-25. v is building on the legacy of Millennium Volunteers which came to an end in March this year. v awards will be presented at an annual city-wide awards ceremony.
Don't forget, you can also gain recognition through The York Award, the University's certificate in personal development.
- Thank you certificate - for volunteers who have got going on their volunteering
- v50 Award - for volunteers who have banked 50 hours of volunteering
- vImpact Award - for volunteers who have banked 100 hours and provided evidence of community impact
How do I get a v award?
Each term you will have a 2 week window to bank your hours with v and review your volunteering experience with the CAVU team. Reviews take place in the second half of each term — join our mailing list to be kept informed of dates.
- Join our mailing list - visit the Interactive Careers Service and log in with your York username and password. Click 'Contact us with your Query', and select 'Volunteering' from the drop-down menu.
- Log your hours ready for banking
What counts towards a v award?
All volunteering! So if you are doing York Students in Schools, a project with Student Action or a placement under your own steam you can gain recognition. If you are already signed up to Millennium Volunteers, you can transfer your hours.
- Join our mailing list - visit the Interactive Careers Service and log in with your York username and password. Click 'Contact us with your Query', and select 'Volunteering' from the drop-down menu.
- Log your hours ready for banking
