Biography
Mike was appointed to a chair in Environment in October 2004. His
research work is divided between the Department and the Stockholm
Environment Institute at York (SEIY), for whom he works 20% of his time.
He also leads the York Centre for Atmosphere/Biosphere Exchange
(YCABE), which is a joint initiative between Environment, SEIY, Biology
and Chemistry. Prior to coming to York, he was Professor of
Environmental Science at the University of Bradford, and from 1975 to
1998 worked as a research fellow, then lecturer and reader at Imperial
College London.
Mike has acted as a member of UK DETR National Expert Group on Trans-boundary Air Pollution, UK Department of the Environment Photo-oxidant Review Group and Critical Loads Advisory Group, UK Department of Health Advisory Group on the Medical Aspects of Air Pollution Episodes, and of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology working group on air pollution and allergy, and as a consultant to the World Health Organisation on revised Air Quality Guidelines for Europe.
