N8

The N8 Group comprises of eight research-intensive universities from the North of England. N8 is a research partnership intended to enhance collaboration between the universities in the group. The N8 universities undertake more than £720 million of research and employ over 8,200 academic staff, thus making N8 one of the largest research-pooling partnerships ever undertaken in the UK.  N8 aims to maximise the impact of this research base by stimulating and encouraging innovation of global significance, through the identification and coordination of powerful research collaborations across the North of England and beyond.

N8's research is focused in 5 key areas:

  • Ageing and Health
  • Energy
  • Molecular Engineering (METRC)
  • Regenerative Medicine
  • Water

The University has been particularly active in the Energy theme and the N8 Molecular Engineering Translational Research Centre (METRC),  a virtual lab pooling expertise from leading research centres across the N8 universities.
