Spintronics is predicted to be the next big thing in the electronics industry and Dr Irene D'Amico is an expert in this relatively new science which could make electronic devices, smaller, faster and be more efficient on power consumption.
How she benefits
"Our Head of Department sets up regular meetings with different staff groups, eg 'young academics' or 'technical staff' etc to give us a chance to discuss the typical problems of each group. For the 'young academic' one of the issues is career progress, as there was some confusion about it. So following an initial collective meeting, we were able to discuss issues on a more personal level with the Head of Department and deputy Head of Department only. This I think is very helpful."
