Dr Diyaa Atiya
Dr Diyaa Atiya first came to York as a student from the University of Cairo. He now represents the Department in projects with engineering companies such as Rolls-Royce, Land Rover and Jaguar.
He has recently developed a tool for verifying the Software Controller on board Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 jet engines.
How he benefits
"My department has contributed significantly to my success in career. I have total control of my work, and my managers are there to point directions if I seek help. But it is up to me to lead and take initiatives. They are also target oriented; it does not matter how you do the work as long as it is delivered on time and to a high standard. I am a nocturnal person who works most of the night, and sleeps during the day. It’s great to find a workplace that appreciates those kind of working hours."
