Professor Susan Gathercole moves to the University of Cambridge
Professor Susan Gathercole has been appointed as the new Unit Director of the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit at the University of Cambridge. Professor Gathercole takes up her new position on the 1st April.

Practitioner Conference, 19th March 2011
The conference ' Supporting Children's Reading, Langange and Memory: Research and Practice' will be held at the Exhibition Centre at the University of York on the 19th March 2011. This conference will be of interest to all professional groups working with children of all ages in educational settings.

Developmental Disorders and Interventions
A new edition of Advances in Child Development and Behaviour, edited by Joni Holmes, is available to order now. It is an overview of contemporary research into cognitive, neurodevelopmental and genetic disorders of learning. The social, emotional and cognitive functioning of children with William's syndrome, Down syndrome, Fragile X and autism, reading difficulties, mathematical difficulties and working memory problems are discussed by some of the leading researchers in the field. Within each chapter, the authors consider current interventions and methods for remediating difficulties associated with each disorder, which will be of particular interest to clinical and educational practitioners. ESRC Follow-on Funding grant awarded to Professor Susan Gathercole and Dr Joni Holmes (£120k).
Many congratulations to Susan Gathercole and Joni Holmes who have been awarded £120k by the ESRC to conduct field trials of a working memory training programme in primary and secondary schools. The project commences in September 2010.

Dr Elizabeth Jefferies wins the Cortex Prize
Many congratulations to Beth Jefferies, who has been awarded the Cortex Prize by the Federation of European Societies of Neuropsychology. The prize acknowledges the best scientific output of European neuropsychologists within 7 years of their PhD. Beth will give the Cortex prize lecture at the next meeting of the European Societies of Neuropsychology in Amsterdam in September, and will provide a review of her research for the Journal cortex.
