Professor Silke Wenk
Professor Silke Wenk
is Professor for History of Art and Gender Studies in the Department for Art
and Media at the University of Oldenburg, Germany and is a founding member of
the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Women and Gender (ZfG). Her
research interests are Gender Constructions in Visual Culture; Visual
Representation of Politics; Myths of Masculinity and Art; Gender Politics,
Arts and New Media; and Visual Methods. She is working on an
interdisciplinary research project "Gender Constructions and Violence.
Ambivalences of Modernity in the Process of Globalization" (since 2002). She has also been involved in
various cooperative research projects, including: ‘Automation und Qualifikation’ (1973
– 1983); ‘Projekt Ideologietheorie’, Freie Universität Berlin (1975 – 1980);
Sculptural Representations of Femininity in Public Spaces, Hochschule der
Künste Berlin (1983 – 1986); and Representations of Femininity in the Space
of Politics, Transcultural Studies, University of Oldenburg (since 1997).
