Professor Harriet Silius
Professor Harriet Silius
is Professor of Women’s Studies, and has been Director of the
Institute of Women’s Studies since 1994 at Åbo Akademi University
(Finland). She has taught Sociology since 1984 and Women’s Studies since
1989. She has co-ordinated a number of interdisciplinary research projects
on:
'Women in Male-dominated Professions' (1989); 'Motherhood and Reproduction'
(1995); 'Life and Life Stories of Women in Finland' (1998), leading teams of
between 5 – 10 researchers.
Professor Silius has edited
and published a number of books and articles on subjects such as women in
the legal profession; theories of professionalisation; empirical work on the Finnish and the European welfare
states; gender contracts; dissemination articles on research policy in the EU; women’s employment; equal opportunities and Women’s Studies in Europe,
as well as methodological articles for example on the reading of narratives,
which include ethical discussions.
