Description of Research Activities

I am a present employee with Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute TAWIRI where I work for the Forestry and Beekeeping Division. I am currently pursuing a PhD study on ‘Late Quaternary vegetation dynamics in the Eastern Arc Mountains, Tanzania; funded through WOTRO-DC and with support from the University of York. My current research interests range from the use of multi-proxy analyses (pollen, macrofossils, stable isotopes and charcoal) in understanding past forest ecosystem dynamics in response to environmental changes. Our area of attention is the Eastern Arc Mountains, one of the world’s biodiversity hot spots, suggested to have been ecologically stable over the recent geological past. My other area of research interests include Mellisopalynology in investigating botanical and geographical origins of pollen sources in Tanzania, an integral part of plant-insect relations. I am also interested in Environmental Impact Assessment to prioritize Valued Ecosystem Components, for a specific development; which results into identification and evaluation of impact.

I am a holder of BSc. degree from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and MSc degree from Utrecht University, The Netherlands. I come from the Singida Region, Central Tanzania.
