Learning Support Module workbooks
Tutor support Every student is allocated a module tutor to oversee their progress. The tutor can advise on problems and questions regarding the modules. In addition, throughout the programmes, support is provided by the Programme Director, a supervisor and the Programme Administrator. Web-based learning We use Yorkshare, built with the Blackboard Academic Suite virtual learning environment to deliver the programmes. The suite offers bulletin boards, virtual seminar rooms, pigeonholes for uploading assessed work, staff offices, automatically marked multiple choice questions, access to a wide range of health and health economics websites and more. Training on the use of Yorkshare will be provided at the first workshop. However, please note that we will be unable to provide training in general computing matters concerning working within a windows environment such as file management, e-mail and using a web browser, and you should ensure that you are familiar with these matters before commencing the programmes. Further, you are responsible for your own computing hardware, software mounted on it and the link to your Internet Service Provider; the University of York cannot provide support for these. In order to use Yorkshare your computer and software will need to meet minimum specifications. Further information on these requirements can be found on the Yorkshare support site here: Yorkshare support If you are unsure whether your PC and/or browser meets these requirements, you should contact your company's IT section or the supplier of your computer. The University of York cannot assist with compatibility issues. Residential workshops in York Most modules are supported by a residential workshop in York. These workshops offer a mix of seminars, lectures, problem-solving classes and a chance to meet your colleagues and the programme team. The residential workshop for Module 1 is compulsory, the remainder are optional (and highly recommended). Speakers at recent workshops have included Alan Maynard, Mike Drummond, Andrew Jones, Liz Fenwick and Adrian Towse. View an sample timetable from the recent Module 1 workshop. Library services As part of the University you are eligible to join the University library and use its distance learning service. UK students can join the UK Libraries Plus scheme, which allows them to use the borrowing facilities of three member libraries. Yorkshare gives extensive access to on-line journals. Assessment Centres As part of the Certificate programe, students are required to sit four unseen written examinations at an assessment centre based either in the UK or abroad. Please note that, although every effort has been taken to ensure the information contained in these pages is correct, matters covered may be subject to change both before and after a student has registered. The information contained within these pages does not form part of a contract between the University and applicants or students. |
