Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. When I've finished the Postgraduate Diploma, can I carry on and complete York's MSc in Health Economics?

No. The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes are distinct from the MSc in Health Economics. The Certificate and Diploma programmes are focused more on applied matters than the MSc, which contains a stronger emphasis on theoretical microeconomics and mathematical methods. Please note the planned launch of our new MSc in Economics Evaluation for Health Technology Assesment. More details here.

Q2. Can I register for the Postgraduate Certificate and upgrade to the Postgraduate Diploma at a later date if I so wish?

Yes. Initially all students register and pay for the Certificate, regardless of whether they wish to take the Diploma. Progression to the Diploma is subject to meeting relevent minimum entrance requirements and the approval of the Programme Director.

Q3. I won't be able to attend the Module 1 workshop. Can I still take the programmes?

No. The Module 1 workshop is compulsory. One of the key principles of our teaching is that all students receive proper training on the use of our web-based learning system, information resources for health economics and basic economic concepts. They also meet their fellow students, their tutor and supervisor. For these reasons the first workshop is compulsory.

No, unfortunately we would not be able to allow students to join part way through the programmes, even if they hold a recent PG Certificate in Health Economics from an alternative organisation.
