Alfred Sackeyfio

Pharmacist

I have practised pharmacy in both Ghana and the United Kingdom. The Postgraduate diploma offered the opportunity to study the organisation, financing and the delivery mechanisms of different international health care systems.

The course is rigorous and interesting. The tutors and module leaders are excellent, monitoring the web-based discussions and responding promptly to any questions. Each module is supplemented by a residential meeting at York with lectures, tutorials, exercises and question and answer sessions. These workshops proved very helpful for examination preparation and I would recommend attendance. I particularly enjoyed the diploma modules (Statistics for Health Economics and Advanced Economic Evaluation), which I found to be both stimulating and challenging.

After successfully completing six (12 week long) modules I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics from the University of York, one of Britain's leading universities. This qualification has familiarised me with the concepts of healthcare delivery and enabled me to incorporate Health Economics into my work. My colleagues are often very interested in my knowledge of Health Economics as they recognise the growing importance of economic evaluation.

My class was an interesting mix of individuals, including a medical doctor, economists, nurses, pharmacists, and Health Economics consultants from Europe and Africa.

I would encourage anyone with a practical and academic interest in Health Economics to consider this programme.
