Projects

Pensions Online? Producer, distributor and user attitudes and behaviour

Aims

The project seeks to investigate whether use of the Internet has transformed the structure, geography and processes of pensions provision in the UK and the potential for further change.
It, thus aims to analyse critically: the threat and implication of disintermediation of the supply chain; the capability of the internet to empower those who use it; the resource implications of channel conflicts; and the outcomes for shifts in responsibility for process enactment.

Methodology

A mixed- method approach will be used incorporating both qualitative and quantitative research methods and making particular use of phenomenological analysis and Critical Incident Tecnique in the anlysis of data. Data will be gathered from all supply chain constituents including pension providers, Independent Finanical Advisors, coporate customers and the individual consumer. The findings of the research will be of interest to government, industry and consumer organisations. The research project will run for 30 months commencing March 2003.

Keywords

Pensions, supply chain, disintermediation, internet, distribution, marketing.
