The conference dinner on the evening of Friday 8th will take place at the Centre for Life, which is on Times Square/Scotswood Road, next to Newcastle Central railway station (turn left out of the main entrance, and you can't miss it). Please enter the Centre through the Times Square entrance. Look for the open-air ice rink - the Times Square entrance is right next to it.

After dinner we will have live music from The Border Directors, a long-established Northumbrian ceilidh band who play a variety of traditional Northumbrian and Scottish music on instruments from the border region. It doesn't matter if you've never done any ceilidh dancing before: the band has a 'caller' to explain the steps, so there's no excuse for not joining in!

We have not made formal arrangements for dinner on Saturday evening, but Newcastle has lots of good restaurants so there is plenty of choice. You will find a list of recommended places to eat in your conference pack. Ask us if you'd like any more specific information about eating out in Newcastle.

conference excursion

On Sunday 10th January there will be a full-day excursion to the Scottish/English border region, starting and finishing in Newcastle. We expect to leave Newcastle at approximately 8am and to be back by 5pm. The cost of the excursion is £25, which includes transport, morning coffee, and a guided tour of the spectacular 16th-century ramparts at Berwick. Please note that lunch is not included in this price.

En route we are planning to make stops at the following places, weather permitting:

  • Carter Bar (border crossing viewpoint, Cheviot Hills)
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed (morning coffee and tour of town ramparts)
  • Bamburgh (historic coastal village for lunch at Mizen Head Hotel)
  • Alnwick (sightseeing, afternoon coffee)

The weather is forecast to be cold - around freezing, or below - so participants should come equipped with appropriate winter clothing and footwear, and of course a camera!

Feel free to contact us (link on left of this page) if there is anything you'd like to ask about the social events.
