accommodation

We have negotiated block reservations and special prices at two hotels within walking distance of the venues for BIC 2010 (one ‘budget’ backpackers’ hostel, one hotel). We strongly encourage you to stay at these hotels, which can be booked through our dedicated accommodation website. See below for information on booking deadlines, which are now very close.

We have also set up a Google group for delegates who wish to arrange shared accommodation. Click here to join the group.

Please note:

  • All BIC 2010 bookings at our two hotels (the Albatross Backpackers In! and the Express By Holiday Inn, Newcastle City Centre) should be made through this website. If bookings are made direct with the two hotels themselves, the beds and prices reserved for BIC 2010 attendees may not be available.

  • Early booking is essential! Our block reservations are available only until 10 December 2009. After 10 December 2009, bookings can still be made through the website, but the beds and prices reserved for BIC 2010 attendees may not be available.

Note: this booking facility will be locked - i.e. no longer useable - after 4th January. Thereafter, you must call the hotels directly. Click on the links for contact information.

  • Accommodation booking is managed by the hotels in collaboration with the NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, so any queries about accommodation should be directed to them rather than to the conference organisers.

If you do not want to stay at either of these hotels, many other options are available in Newcastle and Gateshead. The following are representative examples, priced between our two official options (according to an Internet search in September 2009); AISEB and the University of York cannot guarantee their prices or availability of rooms.

The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle – from £76/night

Jurys Inn Newcastle – from £49/night

Britannia Hotel Newcastle Airport – from £65/night

Whites Hotel – from £39/night

Royal Station Hotel – from £50/night

Swallow Newcastle Gateshead – from £49/night

Thistle County Hotel, Newcastle – from £65/night
