Research

Overview

An Investigation into the Population of Online Gamers: Stereotypes, Stereotype Threat, and Social Competence

Current projects

My research aims to answer the following questions: What is the stereotype of online gamers? Does the stereotype reflect how this population is actually being perceived? Do those who participate in online environments have deficits in the areas that the stereotype implies? More specifically, are online gamers more socially incompetent than those who do not play online games?  Additionally, are there repercussions to this stereotype?
