External Seminar: "Conduct Problems and Callous-Unemotional Traits in Children"

Tuesday 1 December 2015, 4.00PM to 5.00pm

Speaker(s): Professor Essi Viding - UCL

Abstract:
Conduct problems (i.e. antisocial behaviour in children) are a substantial societal concern and a considerable amount of resources are targeted into their prevention and treatment. However, the success of the prevention and treatment efforts is, at best, moderate. Decades of developmental psychopathology research highlight that we should be mindful of the phenomenon of ‘equifinality’, namely that individuals may present with similar behaviours for a number of different underlying reasons. In this talk I will review studies that have employed a variety of methodologies and investigated callous-unemotional traits as a subgrouping variable among children with conduct problems.
