World class psychology department

Posted on 10 November 2017

The Department of Psychology at the University of York is the third best psychology department in the UK, according to a brand new 2018 Times Higher Education World University League Table.

Placed 37th overall, out of 100 global institutions offering the specialism, it was beaten only by two other universities in the UK.

Head of Department Professor Mike Burton said: “This is a great result for our department and is a reflection of the calibre of academics and excellent staff and students we have working here.”

The US dominates the inaugural psychology ranking, claiming almost half (47) of the top 100 places, and eight of the top 10 spots. The UK is the second most represented nation, but has just 13 featured institutions.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 lists the top 1,000 universities in the world, and is the only global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The top 1,000 represents no more than 5% of the 20,000 higher education institutions in the world.
