Dr Heidi Baseler speaks at Blind Veterans UK Event (24 May)

Dr Heidi Baseler was invited to speak at the charity Blind Veterans UK conference on ‘Life beyond sight loss’ at the Victory Services Club in London, as one of a select panel of world-renowned experts on sight loss.

Guest speakers included Surgeon General of the British Defence Medical Services, Vice Admiral Alasdair Walker, and military ophthalmologists from the US and UK. The event was attended by representatives from all of the major UK sight loss charities, blind veterans from Blind Veterans UK, the Blinded Veterans Association (United States) and St. Dunstan’s Association for South African War-Blinded, and celebrities (paralympians and a supermodel, Caprice Bourret). http://bva.org/BVA/News_Events/BVA/News_Events/BVA_News.aspx

Dr Baseler spoke about age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the developed world. Two-thirds of Blind Veterans UK members have the disease, making it a greater cause of sight loss in this group than battlefield injuries.
