Face recognition specialists meet at York

Posted on 5 July 2015

The department recently hosted an event for face recognition researchers and practitioners.

The applied face recognition event was organised by Dr. David Robertson and Professor Mike Burton from the FaceVar Lab, and was intended to bring together face recognition researchers and practitioners.

A series of informative talks were provided by practitioners from police forces in London, Leicestershire and Scotland. Additional talks were given by researchers from York, Kent, Greenwich and Glasgow.

The audience consisted of academics with an interest in applied face research, and professionals from the Home Office, the Metropolitan Police, the office of the Biometrics Commissioner, CEOP, the Chartered Society for Forensic Sciences and the Independent Inspectorate of UK Borders and Immigration.

Dr. Robertson said, "Our department has a really dynamic approach to the promotion of science in society, and this meeting provided the opportunity for researchers and practitioners to communicate and find common areas of interest".
