Artistic Autistic triumphs at national competition

Posted on 22 June 2015

Artistic Autistic represented the University of York at national competition Uni Popshop and won three out of four prizes.

Artistic Autistic is a community-interest business run by a team of volunteer students and Dr. Katie Slocombe at the University of York. They sell products displaying artwork created by Peter Myers, an amateur artist with Autism, living in York. His art is characterised by the incredible attention to detail which reflects what it might be like to view the world from an Autistic person’s perspective. Their aim is to spotlight Peter’s talent and raise awareness of Autism.

Artistic Autistic won Best Visual Merchandising, Best Social Impact sponsored by Unlimited and Best Digital Marketing Campaign sponsored by Born Social. Their prize entitles the team to spend a day at the London offices of Unlimited and Born Social where they’ll receive advice on how to expand and develop the company further. This will bring the team closer to their goal of making enough money through Artistic Autistic to make it Peter’s primary source of income. It also allows them to spread the positive message at the heart of the company through increasing the online presence of their digital marketing campaign #CelebrateYourDifferences.
