The department of Psychology at the University of York is a leading research (6th in RAE 2008) and teaching (TQA 24/24) department with 36 faculty and a lively community of researchers and PhD students. The department offers a vibrant research environment and first-class facilities, including the York Neuroimaging Centre and the Henry Wellcome Building for Cognition.

Developmental psychology (including typical and atypical development of language, literacy and memory in children)
Social interaction and forensic psychology
Perception and action (including fundamental neuroscience and significant applied research)

With guidance from your potential supervisor you should then complete the online application form, which includes a research proposal.
To be considered for a studentship we must receive your application by January 13th 2014. Initial interviews will be completed before the 27th January. The strongest candidates will then be shortlisted for a second interview between 10th and 21st February 2011 and funding offered to successful candidates by the end of February.

The department is in an attractive location on the main University campus and occupies modern purpose-built accommodation and is furnished with state-of-the-art research and computer equipment. All our research postgraduates are provided with their own desk and computer and have full access to laboratory facilities.

The department maintains excellent contact with local schools and hospitals for work in developmental psychology and neuropsychology. There are also close links with the Home Office, the Prison and Probation Services, the Police and several zoos that allow behavioural animal research.
