Krystian Groom (History & Politics, 1st Year)

It is rare to find a course covering such a vast topic area as well as Politics does, with first year options ranging from International and Domestic Politics to Political theory stretching as far back as Plato. The sheer amount of varied opinion and knowledge revealed through the many debates and conversations studying Politics involves makes for an incredibly intellectually stimulating course, it never becomes stale.
Sophie Hackett (History and Politics, 1st Year)

Choosing York was an easy decision. The depth and breadth of the module options set it apart from others and allows me to choose areas of the discipline that most intrigue me, and weight my course towards my chosen field. The department openly offers both personal and academic support at any time, whilst its open, friendly feel only further motivates you to delve deeper into the course.
Jennifer Hammond (History & Politics, 2nd Year)

When I visited York on the Open Day, I knew it was the place for me. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, something which hasn't stopped now I'm here! I chose to study the combined degree, as I wanted the freedom and flexibility which I felt York's programme offered me. Both my departments have been very helpful in guiding me to choose my own course structure and I have found the support from tutors and supervisors invaluable.
Angus Hill (Politics with International Relations, 2nd Year)

I was first attracted by the Politics with International Relations degree at York because of the quality of the department and the wide variety of options. The first year course gives a very good grounding in the subject, especially for somebody who hasn't studied Politics before such as myself. Being able to choose modules for the second and third years gives you a lot of freedom to decide for yourself the direction in which you want your degree to go, so if you want to study global politics like me then that is possible. York is also a fantastic place to study Politics because of all the other things you can get involved in that help you degree such as listening to outside speakers, and joining the political discussion and Debating Society.
Jai Jethwa (History & Politics, 2nd Year)

Studying Politics at York is an intellectual challenge which remains both rewarding and enjoyable at every turn. Through the flexibility of my combined degree, I have been able to develop a well-rounded and informed outlook on significant and universal issues, as well as specialising in areas that interest me the most. I have found the department and staff to be entirely encouraging and effective, and always looking to make me realise my full potential whether it's pointing me in the right direction in supervisions or providing constructive feedback in my written work.
Hugh Salway (Politics with International Relations, 3rd Year)

I came to the University of York because of its great reputation for international relations. What I didn't realize was that I would not just be learning, but experiencing this every day. With students and lecturers from around the world, my understanding is developing not just through reading, but through conversations, debates, and friendships, both in and outside the seminar room. Studying at York has given me knowledge that no book ever could.
Chris Southeran (Politics, 3rd Year)

My degree in Politics has given me the opportunity to explore a variety of topics, ranging from the study of Mill, Rousseau and Kant to post-war British political history. I've found that having the freedom to choose a wide range of modules has not only broadened my own perspective on political debate but also my understanding of how various individuals, theories and movements have shaped the world as we know it today.
