The Department of Politics is part of the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre, a major new collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York with a total of 48 ESRC studentships per year over 5 years, from 2011-12.
The WR DTC is one of the largest consortia in the country and offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across the social sciences as well as numerous training opportunities, particularly focused upon maximising the social and economic benefits of your research. Students will work together with others studying in their discipline from across Yorkshire and have lots of opportunities to develop their Interdisciplinary networks and expertise.
Applicants to the Department of Politics will usually be eligible to apply for scholarships on the Politics and International Relations pathway and may be eligible to apply to the International Development pathway.
Students entering the Politics and International Relations pathway on a 1+3 basis should have a 2.1 degree qualification (or better) in Politics, International Relations, or a related discipline, and apply to the MA in Political Research in the first instance.
Students entering the Politics and International Relations pathway on +3 basis should have a Masters level qualification in Politics and/or International Relations or a related discipline from an ESRC recognised outlet
The Department of Politics and Department of Sociology are also offering a joint inter-disciplinary ESRC scholarship for 2012/13 entry for applicants whose research objectives and methodology draws on the conceptual and analytical tools of both disciplines.
Applicants should clearly mark their submission ‘Joint Politics-Sociology scholarship’.
