The internal dynamics of Chinese politics: a case study on the developments in the railway industry in the last 30 years
This thesis aims to research how the Chinese railway has (outside of its role as a transportation method) played a role in Chinese society, exploring the political, economic and social aspects of its development. The overriding question of my thesis is: What explains the rapid development of China's railway industry in the past 20 years? The ancillary question is: which political factors drive railway development?
The thesis draws upon relevant literature including scholarship around nation-building, the variance of capitalism(VoC), Asian developmental state(DS), Chinese political economy and so on.
