Introduction to Democratic Politics

This module is to introduce students to the key principles and institutional forms of democracy in the different political systems of the UK, the EU and India.  It is split into four main sections. The first section deals with a number of issues underlying the analysis of democratic political systems. These include democracy and state formation; principles and theories of democracy; institutional characteristics of the democratic state; the problems or limits of democracy. The remaining three sections introduce the system of the UK, the EU and India.

The module uses the University’s Virtual Learning Environment, Yorkshare, to facilitate access to resources and group work.
