All users of the department are welcome to attend the Physics Safety Committee meetings and raise any health and safety concerns.


Health and Safety Committee

This University committee keeps under review health and safety matters concerning the University as a whole. The Chair of the University Laboratory Safety Committee is an ex-officio member, and all University unions are represented. The committee reports direct to Council.

University Laboratory Safety Subcommittee

This is a subcommittee of the Health and Safety Committee, and is concerned with health and safety in all the University laboratories. The DSO and Department Administrator are both ex-officio members and there are also technician, research, graduate, undergraduate and union representatives.

Physics and Electronics Safety Committees

The committees in Physics and Electonics keep under review all matters concerning health and safety in the Physics and Electronics Departments. The Electronics Department has a separate safety committee. The membership Physics Safety committee is:

In addition, there is also a joint Physics and Electronics Safety Committee where matters affecting both departments (eg building, etc) are also discussed. The membership of this committee is:

Both committees shall normally meet once per term.

The committees report directly to the University Laboratory Safety Committee. The responsibilities of the Laboratory Safety Committees are:

  1. to keep under review the measures taken to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of University employees, students and all others who work in or visit the Departments of electronics and Physics.
  2. to advise the Head of Department on all health, safety and welfare matters.

The minutes of the committees are sent to the University Laboratory Safety Subcommittee, and they are also posted on a departmental noticeboard, and the departmental website..

All users of the building should feel free to discuss relevant matters with any member of the committee who will, where appropriate, raise the matter at the next meeting of the committee.
