Fire Safety

The Physics and Electronics building is a zoned building. There are three zones (FAP, map in PDF)

  1. Concourse & tower block (lecture theatres & teaching labs)
  2. Research wing (staff offices, research labs)
  3. Z-block

On hearing a fire alarm

There are two fire alarms;
  1. A continuous alarm
  2. An intermittent alarm

On a continuous alarm EVACUATE the building as INSTRUCTED; an alarm has been activated in your zone.

  1. 1. Do NOT run.
  2. Do NOT use the lift.
  3. Where possible, close all doors and windows.
  4. Report missing persons.
  5. Trained people only should use fire extinguishers.
  6. Report to the congregation area.

On an intermittent alarm STANDBY to evacuate the building, an alarm has been activated in another zone.
On finding a fire

  1. Activated the fire alarm by breaking the glass on the red boxes.
(just push the glass with your thumb)
  2. Telephone the Emergency Services on 3-333.
  3. Trained people only should use fire extinguishers.
  4. Follow the evacuation procedure.
  5. Report to the congregation area.
Do NOT re-enter the building. The Chief Fire Officer will give permission when it is safe to do so.
Missing persons must be reported. The Fire Brigade need to know.
