Taught Modules for Research Students

PhD students are required to attain forty credits over the first two years of the PhD.

Ten credits are awarded for participation in the Transferable Skills programme, leaving thirty credits to be attained from assessment from taught modules.  Students who have a Master’s degree may apply to be exempt from a further ten credits, taking twenty credits of taught modules in total.

Confirmation of your PhD status is dependent on meeting your module requirement by the end of the second year of the PhD, at the latest.  Further modules may be taken for interest, not assessment.

Module selection is done in consultation and with the  approval of your supervisor in the first week of term.

MSc by Research students may opt to take modules, upon the advice of their supervisor.

Modules may be chosen from:

  • Specific Graduate Modules
  • Year 4 Undergraduate Modules
  • MSc in Fusion Energy Modules
  • Modules in other Departments, if applicable
