Profile

Biography

I am an Associate Lecturer and postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Philosophy. Originally from the north west of England, my first degree was in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at New College, Oxford. After staying on for an ESRC-funded MPhil in economic history at Oxford, I was employed as a fast-stream economist and then Economic Adviser in the Government Economic Service, living and working in London. While there, I studied for a part-time MA in Philosophy from Birkbeck. After that, I obtained WRoCAH funding to do a PhD at the University of York in political philosophy, which I completed in 2022, on the subject of the connection between relational equality and workplace democracy. I have subsequently taught on a broad range of topics in the Politics, Philosophy and Economics Departments at the University of York, and in the Politics Department at the University of Manchester.

Research

Overview

My research interests are in the field of political philosophy, though inflected by my interdisciplinary background. I am particularly interested in theories of equality, democracy and social justice, and areas at the intersection between philosophy and economics and political economy including questions of workplace democracy, ownership, class, redistribution, and analytical approaches to socialism.
