All of the departments involved with CHiPhi (at the White Rose Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York) welcome applications from prospective PhD students.
As well as the fact that each department on its own has a strong research reputation, there are several advantages to studying the history of philosophy at departments connected with the Centre:
You should apply to the department with staff who work closest to your proposed area of research, using the standard application procedure for that department. But if you are interested in the possibility of joint supervision across departments, you should make this clear on your application form.
Further details of how to apply to the individual departments are available here:
There are plans to establish a jointly taught MA in the History of Philosophy within the CHiPhi departments, but this is not available at present. So if you are considering an MA in history of philosophy, you should look at what is offered by the individual departments. An MA in History of Philosophy by Research is currently available at the University of York. Taught MAs are available at all three Universities:
There may be options available here for doing taught modules and/or a dissertation in history of philosophy. As an MA student at any of the White Rose Universities, you will also be able to attend the various CHiPhi events.
